Mulching

Fraser Earthworks specialises in mulching, servicing locally the Sunshine Coast to all of South East Queensland. The mulching equipment is a special attachment head which will complete difficult tree and vegetation clearing easily. Whether the mulching is required for trees, scrub, overgrown sections of land or to clear trails and walkways in areas of forestry, we have the right sized machine to suit your requirements.

Our mulching services can be used for small and large vegetation clearing projects, domestic or commercial, rural or around suburban housing. Roads, highways, pipelines and other utility’s benefit from mulching as a single machine can remove over hanging branches, stumps & free standing trees. Not only can mulching be a commercial job for your fruit tree farms but also for residential land clearing projects as well. No need to get your hands dirty anymore leave it to us!

Why mulch?

Mulching is not only a faster and more effective way of clearing all sorts of vegetation, but also puts all the nutrients back into the ground without disrupting the earth. Mulching can dramatically improve soil productivity, conserve moisture in the ground & reduce weed regrowth. Our mulching machine also has the ability to operate on steep slopes and in small or tight areas, in poor ground conditions, and in wet weather. Our mulching machine clears land of unwanted trees and brush with limited disturbance to soils or desirable vegetation.

Traditional land clearing methods often present an increased risk of erosion by pushing over trees, uprooting the stump and roots, and substantially disturbing soils. In contrast, mulching the vegetation leaves the soil structure intact. The mulched material can be left on the ground and will act as an erosion barrier while returning nutrients back into the soil through decomposition. Over time, grass will naturally grow through the mulch and can be maintained with mowing.

Fire prevention, protection and management

  • Proactive mulching: Mulching reduces the potential for wildfires by eliminating small leafy plants and fallen or rotten trees. If left overgrown, this vegetation increases the potential for fire, increases the heat intensity, and serves as fire ladders that enable fire to elevate quickly to the tops of trees which is where a fire can spread most quickly. Mulching can also be used to create a coarse grind finish that can create a more ideal controlled burn.
  • Reactive mulching: In addition to proactive thinning of vegetation to lessen the intensity of wildfires, forestry mulching can be used for reactive cutting of lines (fire breaks) on active fires.
  • Cleanup: After the fire is out and cleanup efforts are under way, forestry mulching machines, mulching attachments, and an excavator with a mulching attachment can provide a top layer of mulch to prevent soil erosion on slopes and minimize water pollution.
